Graduate Lifeguard Programme

12 of our youth members have enrolled for the Graduate Lifeguard Programme, which follows the same criteria as the SLSGB Surf Lifeguard Award. Year 9 students progress over 3 years working through each element which are signed off as they complete the necessary training, when all the elements have been completed the Trainer Assessor will sign off the log book and they will be ready for the relevant SLSGB award. Trainer Assessor Chantel Richards is taking the lead on this programme, with input from the other club coaches and trainers.

The programme has been devised to help promote water safety and the prevention of drowning through training, qualifications and peer to peer presentations.

Please make sure that your kit is in the correct slot , one members board has already been damaged by boards being moved around.

Presentation of The Graduate Lifeguard Programme

Wednesday 8th February 2017 6.30pm at Portreath SLSC

Mark Turner from SLSGB is arranging a presentation of the Graduate Lifeguard Programme for all club members who would like to be involved, this is aimed at our youth members from 14 years upwards to develop the skills and knowledge over a period of time to complete their SLSGB awards.

The programme will offer another aspect of club training and enable the youth members to be involved in the National Lifeguard Patrol Framework which will see Portreath SLSC taking part in the pilot project this year.

It would be ideal if parents came along with their sons or daughters to listen to Mark’s presentation then they would be able to ask questions about the project.

Hello Susan BrayOur new Membership scheme has re-launched today.Co-op Members in your local community can now see your cause profile on our membership website.

How it works

Every time our members choose Co-op branded products and services and use their Co-op Membership card (subject to our Membership T&Cs) 1% of what they spend will go to their chosen cause.

Members can change their choice at any time until the end of the giving period on 18th March 2017.

If members don’t pick a cause during the giving period then their 1% is shared out equally between all the local causes in their community.

Any funds raised for your cause will be distributed shortly after the end of the giving period.

Spreading the news

We want your time with the Co-op Local Community Fund to be a huge success, so we’re sending announcements to both local and national newspapers.

To help you bring to life your project and how it benefits the local community for your supporters and our members, we have pulled together a promotional guide which you can find here.

You can use the guide to help promote your cause – it includes suggestions of how to approach local newsletters, how use social media and poster and leaflet templates that you can personalise and put up in your local Co-op Food stores and community noticeboards in your area.

We’ll send a separate email shortly that lists the Co-op Food stores that will be promoting your cause.

Keeping track of your funds raised

If you are a member you can keep an eye on how much is being raised in your Co-op Membership account or you can visit your local Co-op Food store and check for updates.

If you have any queries, email us and we’ll do our best to help.

Thanks and good luck!
