PORTREATH Surf Life Saving Club are providing a third of the 12-strong Great Britain team for next month's Rescue 2008, Surf Life Saving World Championships in Germany.
Daniel Humble, Jenna Hawkey, Katy Whear and Rachel Pascoe will be joined by with Sara Rowe of St Ives and Dani Perks of Perranporth in the squad.
Perranporth's Dan Goodway was also selected for the GB team, but unfortunately had to withdraw due to his work commitments as a Police Community Support Officer.
Rob Phillips, GB Surf Life Saving High Performance Director who is also Portreath club chairman, said: “All six Cornish competitors are exceptional in all disciplines. Most of them have a solid life saving background and are professional lifeguards.
“Katy Whear is one to watch on the beach having previously won the world title in 2004.
“Jenna Hawkey, who just missed out on Olympic selection, will be a strong contender in surf ski.
“Rachel Pascoe, who is the current European Ironwoman champion, will be hoping to push the top competitors.
“Dan Humble has just returned after winning the Legacy Ironman championships, and is hoping to do well in the pool.
“All the training throughout the winter has paid off.”
The GB team will be competing against surf life savers from over 30 countries, in Warnemünde and Berlin starting on July 15.
Portreath's Rachel Pascoe, 20, said: “I am really looking forward to competing against the world's best again, particularly the Australians who are the cream of the crop, and seeing what I still have to do to become the world's best myself.”
Life savers compete to test their fitness and surf skills in local, regional and national competitions. All the events have some element relating to the skills required to save lives at sea.
The next world championships in 2010 are being held in Newquay
